News from the
Nursery
MPUMC
family I have exciting news! In trying to grow our church family
it has been decided to hire a nursery teacher. We are doing this as
a one year trial basis. Since we are doing it this way we need to
raise all monies needed for the year before November. Our goal
for this to succeed is $2,500.00. Please be a sponsor and
donate
to this cause as soon as possible. This needs to be above and
beyond your regular weekly tithing and offering. We do not
want this to affect our regular money needed for our current
budget already in place. This will be a one time donation
of your choice. Please mark your check and your offering
envelope with "Nursery Fund," please make sure your name is
clearly written on it as well. If we do not raise enough to make this
happen your money will be returned to you. If you have any questions
please see Emily Lanning or Linda Isley.
Thank
you in advance for helping to make this a success!
Emily
Lanning, Children's Ministry Chairperson
Alter Flowers
Flowers on the altar are a beautiful way to give thanks and glory to
God for the love, mercy, and grace He bestows on each
of us. Flowers speak of festivity, and to Christians
flowers speak specifically of the resurrection. Flowers given to the church can be
an exquisite offering of praise and thanksgiving, and they are also a fitting way of
memorializing loved ones in worship on the anniversary of their death or
birth. It is not surprising that flowers have become such a favorite means of
decorating the environment of worship. Since flowers symbolize the resurrection,
and in keeping with the principle of integrity, no type of artificial flower or
plant is appropriate to the environment of worship in the altar area of
worship. The principle of Integrity means
that everything should express to the worshiper the
qualities of truth, Integrity, simplicity and purity. Anything that expresses
falseness or pretense should be avoided. If for a given service no
fresh flowers are available, there are several
alternatives; use evergreens, mixed greenery or
sets of live potted plants. The following options are available:
- A
gift of $60.00 payable by check to Mt. Pleasant UMC (tax deductible) to
cover the cost of the flowers. Note on the bottom of the check for
"Altar flowers", and the secretary will place the order. You may choose
one large arrangement or two small that will be delivered to the church
on your chosen date. A form will be available for you to complete
giving
information for the church bulletin. Orders being placed by the church
must be received two weeks prior to the Sunday. Florists contacted for
pricing were Corum's in Pleasant Garden, Garrett's In Liberty and Tammy
Yow-Russell who works from home on Coble's Church Rd. and Company Shops
Florist In Burlington. Above pricing Includes tax and delivery. Prices should be
firm for the calendar year.
- Individuals
may purchase or supply flowers from sources of their choice and bring them to
the church. If Individuals need assistance arranging flowers purchased or
gathered from the lawn, please notify the church secretary, Pat Moore, and
she is willing to help or contact a person of the church to help with the
arrangement. Pat is in the office on Monday-Thursday.
- If
Individuals choose to place artificial flowers, these could be used In
other areas of the church such as the Narthex, a
particular Sunday school room, or the
fellowship hall.
Please
sign the calendar sheet as instructed:
- Sign
on the dates listed (Sunday date) to select your special weekend. More than one
family may request the same date.
2. Turn in the Information form so It can be
noted correctly in the bulletin.
3. Check your choice of
supplying flowers.

Welcome
to Rev. Halipilias
Effective July 1, 2010, Reverend Charles "Chuck" Halipilias will be
appointed pastor of Mt. Pleasant.
He earned a Bachelor of Arts from High Point College in 1977 and a
Masters of Divinity from Gordon-Conwell in 1981. Most recently, he
served for eight years at Jackson Park Methodist Church in Kannapolis,
North Carolina. During his tenure there, church membership grew by 3%
and worship attendance by 15%. Chuck is known as a visionary leader
with a love for teaching and preaching.
His wife, Sally, is currently an elementary school teaching assistant.
They have three daughters and, Alyssa, who is a high school sophomore,
is still at home.
Reverend Halipilias, Sally and Alyssa visited our church, the parsonage
and the fellowship hall on May 8. After the tour, they joined the
Pastor Parish-Relations Committee and the tour leaders for an informal
dinner.
Moving day for the pastor is June 22. The following weekend is to be
free time for the pastor and his family to settle in their new home. We
were asked by the District Superintendent to honor their privacy during
that time.
On July 4, Rev. Halipilias will deliver his first sermon to us at Mt.
Pleasant. Please come and bring a friend. A committee is planning a
Fourth-of-July activity that will provide everyone a chance to meet and
welcome our new pastor and his family.
Although we know that several of
you may be away for the Fourth, many will not. More information will
come from a committee led by Tom Hollaway on this special July Fourth
event.
Please everyone
share in a warm welcome to Chuck and his family to our Mt. Pleasant
church family!

Mt.
Pleasant
Cupboard of Care
During
these difficult times, many people have to decide whether to buy food,
pay bills or buy medicine. The Mt.
Pleasant family has always been there to help those in need.
We
are asking those of you who can help, to provide food for people in
Guilford, Alamance, and Randolph Counties in a very simple way.
There is a table in the Narthex where every week, you may place ONE of
the following items: cereal, oatmeal,
canned meats or vegetables, dried beans, any size zip-lock bags, brown
paper lunch bags. Thanks
to all those members who have contributed and continue to contribute to
this very important outreach program!
Since
this program began last year, members of our church have contributed
over 150 bags of items to needy people in Guilford, Alamance, and
Randolph Counties.
When
schools recess for the summer, the needs of families will change
somewhat. Many children receive their breakfast at school and
lunch in school. For this reason, we will make a few changes in
items requested for the months of June, July, and August. Please
bring ONE
of the following items to our Cupboard of Care each week: cereal,
boxed juices, peanut butter, jelly, canned tuna, chicken, or other
canned lunch meats, rice, dried beans, and sandwich baggies.
What a blessing to those who receive and to those who give.
And this ministry glorifies Christ who asked us to feed His children.
As
a suggestion to those of us who have summer gardens; if we find that we
have more than we need, we can always deliver it ourselves to one of
the many homeless shelters where they can readily use it.
